Monogram is GE’s premium built-in line: column and side-by-side refrigerators, professional gas ranges, and wall ovens. It’s built to be worked on, which is more than you can say for a lot of what goes into kitchens now. When something fails on a Monogram, repair usually beats replacement, because a built-in swap is a five-figure conversation once you count the panels and the install.

What we see most on the fridges: inverter and control boards that drive the compressor, evaporator and condenser fan motors, and defrost faults that ice up the coils. Most of those are common, fixable, and not expensive as built-in work goes. A fan or an inverter board runs from about $250 plus the part. On the ranges and wall ovens it’s the bake or broil igniter first. A gas oven igniter weakens with age until it glows but can’t pull enough current to open the safety gas valve, so the oven quits heating even though the igniter still lights. We read the igniter’s current draw before blaming the valve.

The bigger job on an older fridge is the sealed system. On a fifteen or twenty-year-old Monogram the cabinet is usually still solid and the sealed system is what’s tired.
